Sangamon County
 Historical Society

Welcome to the Sangamon County Historical Society!

The Sangamon County Historical Society is devoted to preserving and promoting the history of central Illinois.

Since 1961, society members have fulfilled that mission by organizing monthly educational programs, tours of historic buildings and museums, developing special projects, and publishing a monthly newsletter, as well as various books and booklets on area subjects.

The Society regularly collaborates with area historical organizations to develop programs for the community and has participated in major restoration projects at area sites such as the Old State Capitol, Executive Mansion, and the Elijah Iles House in Springfield.

The Society is also a proud supporter of the Sangamon Valley Collection, which collects research materials related to Springfield, Sangamon County, and its adjacent eleven counties.

We invite you to join today and help us preserve and promote the history of central Illinois!
